mitre joint

Angled corner join

A mitre joint is a corner joint formed by cutting two pieces at matching angles—typically 45 degrees each—so they meet to form a right angle.

Common in picture frames, door casings, and crown molding: The carpenter checked that the mitre joints were tight before nailing the trim.

Also spelled miter joint.
