mirror twins

Anatomically reversed duplicates

Mirror twins are identical twins whose features are asymmetrically reversed, as if one were the other's reflection.

One may be left-handed while the other is right-handed, or birthmarks and hair whorls may appear on opposite sides.

The phenomenon occurs when the fertilized egg splits relatively late in development.
