selective reduction
Multiples pregnancy termination
Selective reduction is a medical procedure to reduce the number of fetuses in a multiple pregnancy, typically performed when fertility treatments result in triplets or more.
A danger to both mother and fetuses increases with each additional baby, so one or more may be terminated to improve outcomes for the rest: After IVF resulted in quadruplets, the couple chose selective reduction to twins.
