minidiscs
Nineties audio format
Minidiscs are small, rewritable optical discs in protective cartridges, introduced by Sony in 1992 for digital audio recording.
The format offered better portability and durability than cassette tapes but was largely overtaken by MP3 players and other digital formats by the early 2000s.
Also spelled MiniDiscs or mini discs.
