reel-to-reel tapes
Magnetic ribbon archives
Reel-to-reel tapes are magnetic audio tapes wound on open spools, threaded manually through a recording or playback machine.
Before cassettes dominated consumer audio, reel-to-reel was the standard format for high-fidelity home recording and professional studio work.
The format remains prized by audiophiles and recording engineers for its sound quality: The original sessions were captured on reel-to-reel.
