loquats

Small orange fruit

Loquats are small, pear-shaped yellow-orange fruits that grow in clusters on evergreen trees native to East Asia.

The flesh is sweet-tart and juicy, surrounding several large seeds, and the fruit is eaten fresh or made into jams and jellies.

The trees themselves are also called loquats and are cultivated both for fruit and as ornamentals in warm climates.

The loquat tree in our backyard produces more fruit than we can eat.
