juneberry

Early summer fruit

Juneberry is a North American shrub or small tree of the genus *Amelanchier*, bearing clusters of white flowers in spring and edible purple-black berries in early summer.

The fruit ripens around June, hence the name.

Also called serviceberry or saskatoon.

We picked juneberries along the trail and ate them straight off the branch.
