Longan is a small, round fruit native to Southeast Asia, closely related to lychee.
The translucent white flesh surrounds a dark seed—the name comes from Chinese words meaning "dragon eye." The fruit has a sweet, musky flavor and is eaten fresh, dried, or canned: We bought fresh longans at the Asian market.
