log-book

Captain's daily record

A log-book is a record where entries are made regularly over time—originally a ship's official record of speed, position, and events during a voyage.

The term extends to any systematic journal: a pilot's log-book, a truck driver's log-book, a laboratory log-book.

Also spelled as one word: logbook.
