lizard tail
Scaly detachable limb
Lizard tail refers to several plants with long, slender flower spikes resembling a lizard's tail, especially *Saururus cernuus*, a wetland plant native to eastern North America with drooping white flower clusters.
The name also captures the biological phenomenon: many lizards can shed their tails when threatened, which continue to wriggle as a distraction while the lizard escapes.
