crested gecko
New Caledonian pet
A crested gecko is a small lizard native to New Caledonia, popular as a pet for its docile temperament and ease of care.
Named for the fringed crest running from its eyes to its tail, it has distinctive eyelash-like projections and sticky toe pads for climbing.
Once thought extinct, it was rediscovered in 1994 and quickly became one of the most commonly kept reptiles.
