A linear foot is simply one foot of length measured in a straight line, without regard to width or thickness.
The term distinguishes length-based measurement from square feet (area) or cubic feet (volume).
It's used primarily in construction, lumber, and retail contexts where materials are sold by length: The contractor ordered 200 linear feet of baseboard or Countertops are priced by the linear foot.
Sometimes shortened to lineal foot.
