transition strip

Gap-covering floor piece

A transition strip is a narrow piece of material—typically metal, wood, or plastic—that covers the gap where two different flooring types meet: The transition strip between the tile and hardwood was coming loose.

It provides a smooth surface between floors of different heights or materials, preventing tripping hazards and giving a finished appearance.
