Line out functions as a verb and noun in several contexts.
In baseball, to line out is to hit a line drive that's caught for an out: He lined out to center field.
In gardening and construction, to line out means to mark boundaries or positions: We lined out where the fence posts would go.
In music, lining out is a call-and-response style where a leader sings each line before the congregation repeats it—a practice from early Protestant hymn-singing still found in some churches.
