Maputo

Mozambique's main city

Maputo is the capital and largest city of Mozambique, located on the Indian Ocean coast in the southern part of the country.

With a population approaching two million, it serves as the nation's economic and cultural center.

The city was known as Lourenço Marques during Portuguese colonial rule until Mozambique's independence in 1975.
