Keymapping is the assignment of functions to specific keys on a keyboard or controller.
In software and gaming, users customize keymappings to suit their preferences: I changed my keymapping so the spacebar reloads.
A keymapping can also refer to the complete set of such assignments: The default keymapping felt awkward, so I switched to a custom one.
