keycap
Keyboard button surface
A keycap is the removable plastic cover on a keyboard key—the part your finger actually touches.
Mechanical keyboard enthusiasts collect and swap keycaps for different colors, materials, and profiles: I ordered a set of custom keycaps for my gaming keyboard.
The term distinguishes the cap from the switch mechanism beneath it.
