keelhauled
Scraped under ship
Keelhauled originally described a brutal naval punishment: dragging a sailor under the ship's hull on a rope, scraping against barnacles and risking drowning.
Now it's used figuratively for any severe reprimand or harsh treatment: The CEO got keelhauled by the board after the scandal broke.
The verb is keelhaul.
