jerry can
Military gas container
A jerry can is a flat-sided metal container for fuel or water, typically holding about five gallons.
The design originated in Germany before World War II and was quickly adopted by Allied forces for its practicality—the flat sides allowed efficient stacking, and the handles made carrying easy.
We kept a jerry can of extra gasoline in the truck bed.
