jeepney

Filipino public transport

A jeepney is a brightly decorated passenger vehicle used as public transportation in the Philippines.

Originally converted from surplus American military jeeps after World War II, jeepneys became a distinctive feature of Philippine streets—typically elongated, fitted with bench seating, and painted in vivid colors with ornate designs.

We took a jeepney from the market back to our hotel.
