tap-tap

Impatient finger drumming

A tap-tap is a brightly painted bus or pickup truck used as shared public transportation in Haiti.

The name imitates the sound passengers make tapping on the vehicle's side to signal the driver to stop: We squeezed into a tap-tap heading to Port-au-Prince.

These vehicles are typically decorated with vivid colors, religious imagery, and Creole phrases.
