itinerancy

Life without roots

Itinerancy is the practice or state of traveling from place to place, especially for work.

The term most often describes clergy who move between congregations rather than serving a single parish permanently: Methodist itinerancy assigns ministers to different churches every few years.

It can also apply to judges riding circuit, traveling salespeople, or any profession requiring regular movement.
