permanent residence
Where you stay
Permanent residence is the legal status allowing a non-citizen to live indefinitely in a country.
In the United States, permanent residents hold "green cards" and can work, pay taxes, and eventually apply for citizenship, but cannot vote.
The term also refers simply to where someone lives long-term: What's your permanent residence?
