irrational number
Cannot be fractioned
An irrational number is a number that cannot be expressed as a ratio of two integers.
The decimal expansion goes on forever without repeating: pi, the square root of 2, and Euler's number are irrational.
The term doesn't mean illogical—it means lacking a ratio.
Most real numbers are irrational, though we encounter rational numbers more often in daily life.
