golden section
Phi-based aesthetic ratio
The golden section is a mathematical ratio (approximately 1.618 to 1) found when a line is divided so that the whole length relates to the longer part as the longer part relates to the shorter.
Artists and architects have long valued this proportion for its aesthetic appeal: The Parthenon's facade reflects the golden section.
Also called the golden ratio or golden mean.
