ironworkers

Structural steel installers

Ironworkers are tradespeople who fabricate, erect, and install structural steel and iron in construction.

They assemble the metal frameworks of buildings, bridges, and other structures, often working at dangerous heights: The ironworkers bolted the beams into place thirty stories up.

The term also covers those who reinforce concrete with rebar.

Ironwork has historically attracted tight-knit crews, including generations of Mohawk steelworkers famous for building New York's skyscrapers.
