interzone
Area between areas
Interzone describes a liminal space between defined zones or territories—neither fully one thing nor another.
The term gained cultural resonance through William S.
Burroughs's *Naked Lunch*, where Interzone is a lawless, hallucinatory city existing outside normal boundaries.
The word now suggests any ambiguous borderland, whether geographic, psychological, or social: the interzone between waking and sleep, cultural interzones where identities blur.
