cut-up

Always causing mischief

A cut-up is someone who clowns around or acts silly for attention, especially in settings where seriousness is expected: He was always the class cut-up.

The term is mildly affectionate rather than harsh—cut-ups amuse more than they annoy.

As an adjective, cut-up means deeply upset: She was really cut-up about losing the job.
