Search and destroy is a military tactic of seeking out enemy forces or resources to eliminate them, rather than holding territory.
The phrase became prominent during the Vietnam War, describing missions to locate and kill enemy combatants: search-and-destroy operations in the jungle.
It extends to any aggressive effort to find and eliminate something: a search-and-destroy mission against the invasive beetles.
