immobilisation

Holding completely still

Immobilisation is the British spelling of immobilization—the act of making something unable to move.

In medicine, a broken limb requires immobilisation to heal properly: The doctor recommended immobilisation of the ankle for six weeks.

The term extends to any prevention of movement: immobilisation of assets freezes them in place, immobilisation of a vehicle keeps it from being driven.
