hot route
Quick receiver adjustment
In American football, a hot route is a quick, predetermined pass pattern a receiver runs when the quarterback faces an immediate blitz.
The receiver abandons the original play and cuts short to give the quarterback a fast outlet: He saw the linebacker coming and threw to the hot route.
The term appears in video game football, where players audible receivers into hot routes before the snap.
