hog

Monopolize, or swine

The noun hog is often synonymous with pig.

Hog is far less frequent, but is used in preference to pig in various contexts, as in hog futures, the expected price of pork in coming months.

The verb hog, by contrast, is far more frequent than the verb pig, but has a similar meaning: take more than your share.

Something that hogs bandwidth uses too much of it.

Hogging the limelight suggests seeking attention at the expense of others.
