colonial capital
Ruled territory's center
A colonial capital is the administrative center of a colony—the city from which colonial authorities govern territory claimed by a foreign power.
Many modern capitals began as colonial capitals: New Delhi served as the colonial capital of British India.
The term also describes the architectural and urban legacy of colonial rule: The old quarter preserves its colonial capital character.
