hibachi

Small charcoal cooker

A hibachi is a small, portable charcoal grill, originally Japanese, used for cooking meat, vegetables, and seafood.

In American usage, hibachi often refers to the style of Japanese steakhouse cooking done on a flat-top grill at the table: We're going out for hibachi tonight.

The theatrical cooking—with flames, knife tricks, and food tossed into diners' mouths—is technically teppanyaki, but Americans use hibachi for both.
