hearts of palm
Tropical stem centers
Hearts of palm are the tender inner cores harvested from the growing tips of certain palm trees, eaten as a vegetable.
They have a mild, slightly sweet flavor and delicate texture, often compared to artichoke hearts.
Sold fresh in tropical regions but more commonly found canned or jarred elsewhere, hearts of palm appear in salads, appetizers, and as a meat substitute in vegan cooking.
She tossed hearts of palm into the salad for extra crunch.
