jicama

Crispy root vegetable

Jicama is a crisp, mildly sweet root vegetable with tan papery skin and white flesh, eaten raw or cooked.

Native to Mexico and Central America, it appears in salads, slaws, and with lime and chili as a street snack: She added jicama to the ceviche for crunch.

The texture resembles a water chestnut or apple.
