Offensive backfield position
A halfback is a player position in football and other field sports.
In American football, the halfback lines up behind the quarterback and primarily runs with the ball or catches passes out of the backfield: The halfback broke through the line for a fifteen-yard gain.
In soccer and rugby, halfbacks occupy a middle position between forwards and fullbacks, linking defense to attack.
