defensive tackle

Line of scrimmage

A defensive tackle is a football player positioned at the interior of the defensive line, typically lining up across from the opposing team's offensive guards or center.

Their primary job is to stop running plays through the middle and pressure the quarterback.

Teams usually field one or two defensive tackles, depending on the defensive formation.

The position demands size and strength to occupy blockers and disrupt plays at the line of scrimmage.
