haggling
Dickering over cost
Haggling is negotiating over price or terms, typically in a back-and-forth exchange where each party pushes for better conditions.
The practice is expected in some markets and cultures, awkward in others: We spent twenty minutes haggling over the rug.
To haggle is to engage in such negotiation, often with a sense of persistent or petty bargaining.
