guildhalls

Craftsmen's assembly buildings

Guildhalls are buildings where guilds—associations of craftsmen or merchants—historically met to conduct business, hold ceremonies, and regulate their trades.

Many European cities retain grand medieval guildhalls as civic landmarks: The cloth merchants gathered in the guildhall to set prices.

In Britain, guildhall often refers to a town hall, even where no guild connection remains.
