historic landmarks
Significant old places
Historic landmarks are places officially recognized for their significance to history, architecture, or culture.
Governments designate buildings, sites, and monuments as landmarks to protect them from demolition or alteration: The old courthouse was declared a historic landmark.
The term also applies more loosely to any notable place associated with important events or figures: We toured the historic landmarks of the civil rights movement.
