manor houses
Aristocratic country homes
Manor houses are large country residences, historically the principal dwellings on landed estates in England and Europe.
The term evokes feudal arrangements where a lord's house served as the administrative center of surrounding farmland and tenant holdings.
Today it suggests any grand rural home with architectural pretensions: They converted the old manor house into a boutique hotel.
