venial sin
Pardonable moral failing
A venial sin in Catholic theology is a minor transgression that weakens but doesn't sever one's relationship with God—distinguished from mortal sin, which is grave enough to damn the soul.
The term has broadened to mean any minor offense or forgivable fault: Skipping the gym is a venial sin compared to lying to your spouse.
