gillnetters
Mesh-wall fishing vessels
Gillnetters are fishing boats that use gillnets—vertical mesh walls that trap fish by their gills when they try to swim through.
The term also refers to the fishermen who operate such vessels: The gillnetters headed out before dawn.
Gillnetting is common for salmon, herring, and other species that travel in schools.
