garotting

Lethal neck ligature

Garotting is killing by strangulation, traditionally with a wire, cord, or metal collar tightened around the victim's neck.

The method was historically used for execution in Spain and elsewhere.

The spelling garroting (with two r's) is more common in American English.

To garotte someone is to strangle them this way: The victim had been garotted from behind.
