garrotte
Execution by strangulation
A garrotte is a device for strangling someone, typically a cord, wire, or metal collar tightened around the neck.
Historically, it was an execution method in Spain—the condemned sat in a chair while an executioner twisted a metal band until death.
As a verb, to garrotte is to strangle someone this way: The victim had been garotted with piano wire.
Also spelled garotte or garrote.
