strangulate
Cut blood supply
Strangulate means to constrict so tightly that circulation or passage is cut off.
The word appears almost exclusively in medical contexts: a strangulated hernia has its blood supply compressed, requiring emergency surgery.
Outside medicine, strangle covers the same territory—strangulate sounds clinical or deliberately technical.
