focus-group

Consumer feedback session

A focus group is a small group of people assembled to discuss a product, idea, or topic while researchers observe their reactions.

The method is common in market research and political campaigns.

As a verb, to focus-group something is to test it this way: They focus-grouped the slogan before launching the ad.

The practice sometimes carries a whiff of cynicism—decisions that are focus-grouped may prioritize palatability over substance.
