redirecting

Sending another way

Redirecting is the present participle of redirect—to send something in a different direction.

Traffic gets redirected around an accident.

A website redirects visitors to a new URL.

In parenting and teaching, redirecting means guiding a child's attention or behavior away from something undesirable toward something acceptable: When he started throwing blocks, I redirected him to the sandbox.
