executive decision
Top-level judgment call
An executive decision is one made unilaterally by someone with authority, without consulting others or seeking consensus.
The phrase often carries a slightly humorous tone when used for minor choices: I made an executive decision and ordered pizza for everyone.
It can also justify bypassing normal deliberation: We don't have time to debate—I'm making an executive decision.
